About Dale Dobson

Dale Dobson, the founder and force behind consultancy Iconiclinx, is an entrepreneurial executive, film producer, and artist.  A native New Yorker whose appreciation of film was her father’s influence, a willing accomplice in relieving her from the drudgery of a school day to join him for all-day movie marathons in New York City’s then-decaying cinema palaces. Her obsession with beautiful handmade objects and interior design began early, studying rooms from Architectural Digest and World of Interiors. As a teenager, she often accompanied her mother on her decorating excursions to select distinctive fabrics and furnishings.  It was then that she discovered Liberty of London, David Hicks, and a host of other iconic brands and interior design styles, setting the stage for her move into home décor.

In addition to Iconiclinx, she has a cultural experience business and Substack blog (IKON). She is creating an artist residency with her friend Claudia Perry and is developing a custom-made collection of artisanal tiles in Puglia, Italy.

As the Executive Director of Maysles Documentary Center (MDC) from 2017-2023, a nonprofit leader in documentary film exhibition and education, she increased the organization’s revenue and brand visibility through the implementation of a formal venue rental program, a fiscal sponsorship program to support filmmakers and artists, partnership development with organizations and entities including Harlem Stage, Film at Lincoln Center, The Cannes Film Festival and the European Union. She conceived an annual Fundraising Awards Dinner, The Albie Awards—the awards champion leaders in Social Justice and Documentary film. Luminary Honorees include Abigail Disney, Steve James, Bethann Hardison, Stanley Nelson, and Mati Diop.

A founding member of the Ralph Ellison Memorial Committee (REMC), Dale understands the benefits of public art in empowering community engagement by bringing together diverse community members and sustaining artistic and historical legacies. Through a variety of fundraising events and artistic programs, the Committee raised more than a half million dollars in public and private funds. The outcome was the commission of a commemorative sculpture in 2003 by the lauded African American Sculptor Elizabeth Catlett, memorializing Ralph Ellison’s work and cultural contributions. The committee continues to implement annual events and engagement campaigns that link public support, artistic institutions, philanthropists, and local politicians to preserve Ellison’s legacy as one of the most important authors and cultural figures of the 20th century.

Dale is a graduate of Barnard College with a bachelor’s degree in foreign Areas Studies, a minor in Political Science, and a concentration in Italian. She holds a Certificate in Collective Leadership Supervisor Training from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. An astrology enthusiast, Dale is a Virgo and self-described “kitchen witch” who loves to cook and host dinner parties, large and small.
