Nestor and Issac of Spaceman in Kongo

Spaceman in Kongo (In Development)

We are producers of Spaceman in Kongo, a feature-length documentary by Kinshasa-based Congolese screenwriter and director Maisha Maene, who works on issues of human rights and the environment. Spaceman in Kongo won the Hot Docs Blue Ice Fund grant, the Sundance Institute Sandbox Films grant, and the IDFA/Bertha Funds IDF Classic.

It is the story of two young rocket engineers, Nestor and Isaac, propelled by the memory of African dreamers and a resilient belief in their country, working on building the first Congolese Space Program. The film explores the intergenerational dream of an African space program, tracing the journey from the 1960s vision of Zambian pioneer Edward Mukuka Nkoloso to the present-day efforts of Jean-Patrice Keka and the aspirations of young innovators Nestor and Isaac. Now, three generations, despite facing political instability, corruption, and the exploitation of the Congo's resources, are united by a common struggle: the lack of belief in their country’s potential.
